DREWES Logistics has successfully completed a large-scale international logistics project involving the transportation of 5,421 steel pipes forming part of a major energy infrastructure development across Virginia, North Carolina, and South Carolina.

The project cargo consisted of steel pipes measuring up to 18 meters in length with a diameter of 1,067 mm. The pipes will serve as a key component in strengthening and expanding the energy supply backbone across the southeastern United States.

The complex logistics chain required detailed coordination across multiple transportation modes and international locations. The route led from Mülheim an der Ruhr in Germany to the port of Bremen, followed by ocean transportation to Morehead City, North Carolina, and onward delivery to multiple pipe yards including Danville, Winston-Salem, Steelton, and Belton.

In total, DREWES Logistics coordinated 2,711 truck transports throughout the project. The continuous flow of cargo required exact scheduling and permanent communication between all involved parties to ensure that all deliveries arrived on time at the various destinations with no delays and no detours throughout the entire operation.

A particular challenge during the operation was the execution of back-to-back vessel shipments under continuously changing weather conditions. Despite these operational complexities, all shipments were handled safely and according to schedule through detailed planning, flexible execution, and close operational monitoring.

To maintain maximum operational efficiency and meet tight delivery schedules, DREWES Logistics successfully obtained specialized DOT permits allowing Sunday truck transports and continuous cargo movements. In addition, direct discharge delivery concepts were implemented in order to minimize handling times and accelerate onward transportation from the port to the final destinations.

For the inland transportation scope, specialized truck equipment was deployed to ensure the highest HSEQ standards throughout the operation. Safety, cargo integrity, and operational reliability remained top priorities during every phase of the project.

A key factor in the successful completion of the project was the exceptional cooperation between the DREWES Logistics offices in Bremen and Savannah. Both teams worked hand in hand throughout the entire operation, ensuring seamless coordination between Europe and the United States. With permanent attendance on site during critical operational phases, DREWES Logistics maintained full control over cargo handling, vessel operations, and inland transportation activities at all times.

From port operations to inland distribution and final delivery coordination, DREWES Logistics managed every stage of the project with a dedicated project logistics team tailored to the customer’s requirements.

The successful completion of this large-scale operation once again demonstrates DREWES Logistics’ expertise in handling complex international projects and supporting critical infrastructure developments worldwide.
