Logistics, Project Logistics

DREWES Logistics has successfully completed the end-to-end delivery of a Siemens Desiro High-Capacity (HC) train from Germany to Egypt — a critical milestone in Egypt’s 2,000-kilometre high-speed rail network, representing the biggest order in the history of Siemens AG.

The urgent request came directly from Egypt’s political leadership and Siemens Mobility’s top management, calling for an exceptionally fast and precise transport solution. Within just four weeks, DREWES coordinated every step of the multimodal logistics chain — including rail transport and port handling in Germany, sea shipment from Hamburg to Alexandria, and final offloading and delivery in Egypt.

Transforming Mobility Across Egypt

This historic rail initiative — led by Siemens Mobility, in partnership with Orascom Construction and The Arab Contractors — will create a 2,000 km fully electrified high-speed network connecting more than 60 cities across Egypt. The three major lines will link the Mediterranean, Nile Valley, and Red Sea, providing fast, clean, and efficient transport for up to 90 percent of Egypt’s population.

Once completed, the network will reduce CO₂ emissions by up to 70 percent, shorten travel times dramatically, and create thousands of skilled jobs, positioning Egypt as a regional leader in sustainable mobility and infrastructure innovation.

The Desiro HC — Efficiency Meets Endurance

As part of the Siemens Mobility contract, Egypt will receive 94 Desiro HC regional trainsets, 41 Velaro high-speed trains, and 41 Vectron electric locomotives.

The Desiro HC units — including the train delivered by DREWES Logistics — combine high passenger capacity, energy efficiency, and robust performance tailored to Egypt’s hot and sandy climate. They form a cornerstone of Egypt’s journey toward a modern, electrified, and sustainable rail system.

DREWES Logistics — Delivering Global Logistics Excellence

The successful delivery demonstrates DREWES Logistics expertise in complex international logistics, including heavy-lift coordination, multimodal transport management, and time-critical execution. Operating under tight deadlines and challenging conditions, DREWES once again showcased its commitment to precision, partnership, and performance.

“We are proud to contribute to a project that is transforming mobility across an entire nation,” said Dr.-Ing. Patric Drewes. “It’s a testament to teamwork, innovation, and trust between our teams and Siemens Mobility.”

As Siemens advances the biggest order in its company history, DREWES Logistics continues to provide the logistics foundation that powers global progress — moving what matters most.
